In addition to learning about Archimedes in his co-op class, Big Bro has also been learning about Rube Goldberg.
Rube Goldberg was a Pulitzer Prize winner, a cartoonist, and author, an inventor, and an engineer. Big Bro's favorite invention was one that replaced golf divots! His co-op teacher told the class about one that killed moths by dispensing moth balls. Big Bro did not like the sound of that one, so that got us to search to see his other wacky inventions.
This drawing is based on Big Bro's interpretation of the cartoon on the Rube Goldberg website.
We have gone to visit a few children's museums and some science museums in our region and now, when we visit, Big Bro notices if they have exhibits that seem to be influenced by the designs of Rube Goldberg.
Big Bro loves any and all kinds of contraptions, so Rube's crazy ones are a real hit for him.
Every year, a national Rube Goldberg contest is held to see who can create a complicated invention to do a very simple task. This year's challenge is to create something that will dispense hand sanitizer.
