Fabulous Finds Friday!

Decided that today is Fabulous Finds Friday, as we made our way to our local Goodwill store and we found some cool Montessori inspired items, at the great low price of $1.06 per item.

When we go to a Goodwill or a Salvation Army store, the boys and I always look for unique artifacts for our continents boxes, as well as practical life items.

Generally, these stores are a treasure trove for such items.

Many people buy souvenirs when they travel and then, at some point, the items seem to lose some of their sentimental value and folks wonder why they have something like a little hand-painted toucan sitting in their living room when the rest of the room is all done in a totally different sort of decor. These trinkets become so much more in the eyes of a child who is trying to make some sort of concrete connection to a place that they themselves have never visited...they really help to bring a different culture alive for young ones.

Today's treasures include:

Culture: A little brass Liberty Bell replica from the USA

Culture: A tiny toucan on a branch from Costa Rica

Practical life - opening containers or dry transfer: 
A small glass container with attached hinged metal lid

Culture / Music: A mini bongo made out of a coconut from Hawaii 

Practical life - pouring exercises: 
An adorable little glass pitcher with blue flowers on it

Language / Bookshelf: Some nice books for children

If you have not been in your local Goodwill or Salvation Army Store, I highly encourage you to do so, as I would be willing to bet that there are some neat little items just waiting to be unearthed on their shelves.

Generally, high end children's consignment stores are better for nice children's books, but every once in a while, you will find some decent selections at Goodwill or Salvation Army.
