Well, since we officially started our school year, I thought that it would be nice to have some freebies.
So, here's what you need to do...please share one of your favorite childhood memories of school, be it homeschool, private school, public school, VBS, etc. in the comments section of my blog.
I will see how many people comment and then, decide how many things to give away today.
The more that enter, the more I will give away (well, to a point...just the stuff I have ready to give away).
I mostly have things for ages 0-3 and 3-6. I have a few things for kids older than 6, but not too many...sorry!
But included in my bag of goodies are some cute fabric scraps that would be perfect for a quilt or for some classroom literacy bags, etc. Also have some folder games, books, and other goodies.
The only thing I would do is to check how much it will cost to your specific area...I may need for you to pay for your own shipping, depending on how big or heavy the item is...

Good morning! I seem to be the first person here :)
One of my favourite childhood memories of school... was a play that my class put on in about grade 5. I was the giant-sized glow worm (do you remember glow worms! I loved them & must have written this part in just for myself ;) who narrated the play & I spent the entire show inside a sleeping bag, arms and all, to create the glow-worm effect. Those were the days!
From a very early age I was curious, and I would ask my mom all kinds of questions. Questions like, what does a deer say? What is God? No matter the question, she always tried to answer it, or find someone who could. Another memory I have is from about third grade (I wasn't homeschooled) I wrote a story in third grade, brought it home and when my mother read it she said, "Marsha, that was really good."
I've been writing ever since, and now I'm a newspaper editor.
My best to you as you continue on your homeschool journey. We are just beginning.
I loved glow worms, too! Picturing you on stage as a glow worm made me smile. What a cool part!
Marsha, glad that you received positive feedback as a child and that your passion for writing led to a career in the newspaper field.
Being an editor must be very rewarding. Please let me know if there is anything you are looking for in particular for you little one, as I have a decent treasure trove of educational goodies and artsy things too:)
One of my favorite memories is from junior high...we had a kite day where we had to make a kite from scratch depicting the theme "Soaring with Success". Then we spent the whole day out on the football field trying to fly them. My friend and I made a kite in the shape of Ronald Reagan's head (he was president at the time). We won first place for "strangest shape". So. Much. Fun.
My favorite memory is the smell of a new box of crayons. I always loved getting the giant box that had silver, copper, and gold.
Thanks for sharing your memories.
The kiddies are asleep, but so is their daddy, so I won't get to upload any photos until the a.m. of the freebies I have...should have enough for all of you so far:)
My childhood memories are rather vague but i do remember the feel of things new at the beginning of the year. New socks shoes tunic books bag... you name it, right down to the new knickers. I felt like a new person every year which was fun for a while till i was picked on again (stinking bullies)
Thanks for the giveaway! I have a 5 year old whom is homeschooled.
Love Melissa
Your blog is great, Colleen.
Grandmother's house had no A/C, and it would get so hot in there after cooking lunch. The porch was deep and long, and relatively cool. One summer, when I was maybe ten, I sat out there next to her rickety little table and read Black Beauty I think cover to cover, and remember feeling transported to another place and time. Learning can happen anywhere, anytime!
Hello. I just found your blog and love all of your posts.
My favorite school memory? Well I'm going to cheat a bit and use a University memory (still school I guess).
I studied music and was given the piccolo part to play for Shostakovich's 5th Symphony. It was by far the hardest, most challenging thing I'd ever come across. I really didn't know if I could do it but I put hours and hours into practicing. The best moment was when the orchestra performed and I actually pulled it off! I think I had tears in my eyes as we finished the final few bars. A memory that will always stay with me.
My Kindergarten classroom is one I'll never forget. One entire wall was sliding doors to went to our play area. I loved that play area. I loved being able to see outside!!
I see you have taken a very unique approach to your giveaway! Did you get my email?
Anyways- my favorite memory of school was my 3rd grade teacher. She was awesome!
My favorite childhood memory from homeschooling was in my senior year of high school (first year homeschooling) I had a class on writing and theater with other homeschoolers. My teacher was so kind and inspirational. We put on a dinner theater show and that helped me to get over speaking in public. Well, at least a little bit!
I read about your idea for this on playschool6 - hope you feel encouraged! You have a neat blog.
I have so many fond learning memories that I became a public school teacher wanting to be in that environment. Probably my most fond memories involve learning about and making music in high school choirs and band. It's such a great thrill to try to tackle beautiful music. Definitely a skill I can continue to learn and hone as an adult. Oh! I also loved learning almost anything life-science related. What a truly fascinating world God has made! I really enjoyed my elementary science times - learning about the water cycle was really cool (can't recall a specific time that was "learned," but I'm sure it was over time and I could still learn much more about it!). Looking forward to hearing others' memories, too! -Annie
My favorite school memory is being a sugar plum fairy in my 1st grade performance of the Nutcracker. I got to wear a tutu and everything- so fun! I also remember clothes shopping and loved having a whole closet of fresh things to wear.
I just loved learning to read. Somebody - probably my mother who read to us every day - instilled in me a love of reading. From that point on, all my free time was spent reading. I feel sad that I no longer make it a priority for me.
I did public school from start to finish. Some of it was a disaster. Most of it was ok. But my first grade teacher, Mrs. Walton, in Rockport Maine lives on in my memory. I remember the day she taught me that it was ok not to know everything. It was ok to learn as you go and not feel overwhelmed. See, I was stumped by a simple worksheet and considered myself "stupid" for not being able to find all the triangles. I had 2 very intelligent older brothers to keep up with and didn't ever feel like I could match up to their brains. She taught me, so early in life, that smart people don't always know the answer, but they do know when to ask for help. It's a lesson I've tried to always remember.
My favorite school memory is being a part of a Shakespeare play in the 8th grade.(The Taming of the Shrew). We had so much fun trying to memorize all the lines (messing up more than we got right) but in the end it turned out great.Always loved the first day of school...new books, bags, stationary, bagging the best seats in class:)
