Day 30: Create It! Contest Winners Plus Principles of Animal Behavior #DisneyYouth #Gifted #Write31Days

Today, have some neat things to share!
First, as promised by 7 pm Eastern today, (10/30/2014), here are the Create It! Contest Winners.
It is a bit before 7 pm, as it is currently 6:20, but better early than late!!!

The winner for the Grades K-5 entries is an educational lapbook about ladybugs created by the Lloyd Homeschool.
Congrats to the Lloyd Family!!!
You are the Grades K-5 Category Winner!
This entry relates nicely with Disney Y.E.S. Exploring the Golden State at Disneyland.
Ladybugs are prevalent in California. There is also a tie in with class content related to Native Americans as Ladybugs are featured in Native American myths.

The winner for the Grades 6-12 entries is a combination entry of a scavenger hunt and a lapbook created by the Rowland Homeschool.
Congrats to the Rowland Family!!!
You are the Grades 6-12 Category Winner!
Their 4th of July Scavenger Hunt could easily be used as either anchor charts for a homeschool or a classroom; the Explorers of North America lapbook works in well for social studies in both a homeschool and a classroom setting. These tie in well with what Disney Youth does related to American history in their Discovering the American Spirit Y.E.S. Program at the Walt Disney World Resort in Florida.

Hope that the winners will enjoy their Disney themed prize packs!!!

Now, for Day 30 in my #DisneyYouth #Gifted #Write31Days series, want to share with you about another neat Y.E.S. program, Principles of Animal Behavior - offered at WDW for Grades 2-7.  Think this class sounds like it would be well loved by all program participants! We got to check out some of what Disney Youth has to offer at Animal Kingdom and our family had a wonderful time!
Program Overview
Inspire students in grades 2-7 to actively participate in wildlife preservation as they study animal behavior. Take an expedition with your students through the 500 acre habitat that is Disney's Animal Kingdom® Theme Park to explore the intriguing world of animal behavior. During this interactive survival adventure, students will study, categorize and analyze data on animal behaviors and adaptations.
Key Learning Points
During this interactive field study, students will:
  • Observe, discuss and understand the significance of animal adaptations and behaviors and categorize them based on these behaviors.
  • Explore the natural world by observing, categorizing, collecting and analyzing data, and communicating findings.
  • Discuss challenges to the survival of certain animal species.
  • Become aware of the great diversity and interdependence of living things.
  • Comprehend that behavior is a response to the environment and influences growth, development, maintenance and reproduction.
  • Understand the global impact of human actions on the environment and think in new, more comprehensive ways about the role of conservation in their own lives.

Disney's Animal Kingdom® Theme Park is accredited by the Association of Zoos and Aquariums.
