Day 29: Using My Magic +/My Disney Experience As Learning Tools #DisneyYouth #Gifted #Write31Days

Today is Day 29 out of my 31 Days of Disney Youth Programs that rock! As I've stated before, the programs are really great for all students, but they are an ideal fit for gifted students, due to the nature of the higher order thinking, convergent and divergent thinking opportunities, and hands on learning experiences that they offer.
In case you were wondering, had to tweak what I had planned to post related to Disney Youth for yesterday and for today.
Just want to get some additional information to share with you before those posts are published...

So, for today's Day 29 #DisneyYouth #Gifted #Write31Days post, want to share a neat option featured right on the Disney Youth website called My Magic + and My Disney Experience specific to the Walt Disney World Resort. here is what Disney Youth shares about My Magic + and My Disney Experience right on their website:

MyMagic+ takes your group's Disney experience to an all-new level, giving you and your group control like never before. Use My Disney Experience online tools to reserve access to select Disney FastPass+ experiences in advance of your visit and tap into the magic with easy-to-wear MagicBands that connect to all the Walt Disney World experiences you've selected for your group.

Get access to a new website and mobile app called My Disney Experience, which is a free and fun digital guide to all there is to do at Walt Disney World Resort. It features interactive maps, attraction wait-times, and the ability to reserve access (with paid theme park admission) to some select Disney FastPass+ attractions, shows and Disney Character experiences, plus much more!

If you are a Guest staying at the Walt Disney World Resort*, you and your group will each receive a MagicBand at no additional charge that connects you to all the choices you make with My Disney Experience. Use it as your room key, park admission (with paid theme park admission), access to your FastPass+ selections and more. You have the ability to customize your group trip like never before by setting everything up through the My Disney Experience website.

There are many hands-on learning experiences for gifted students related specifically to My Magic + and My Disney Experience, for example, students could work collaboratively or independently to:
  • Analyze wait times;
  • Utilize the interactive maps to help plan the days;
  • Create Smash Book / Journal pages that coordinate with their Disney Character experiences
  • Coordinate times and places to meet up;
  • Draw their favorite attraction in the park;
  • Post on social media to share the group's experience with the rest of the school;
  • Take photos and keep a journal to share with any donors to the group's Disney Experience...
  • Try to replicate some of the concepts from My Disney Experience for their schools, such as an interactive school map  / an appointment maker with school guidance similar to the ability that My Disney Experience gives you with respect to the ability to reserve access to select attractions, shows, and experiences.
It really is amazing what Disney Youth Programs have to offer students of all ages, but for gifted students who in many cases have had their school programs taken away and are now in search of alternative learning experiences that appropriately challenge them, Disney Youth Programs are really such an amazing opportunity!
While my sons and our students have not had the opportunity to take an entire Disney Youth Y.E.S. program as of yet, we sincerely hope to do so, as the overview we received while at the Disney Youth Media Event back in September has really made us all aware of how awesome these would be for not just our family but for all of the students from our Sunrise Learning Lab ™ Gifted Program, as well as for our friends from two local homeschool co-ops.
We are actively trying to seek funding opportunities, so if anyone reads this who would love to help to make these programs a reality for our Sunrise Learning Lab group, as well as for other groups of gifted students, we would love to hear from you!
