Day 21: Exploring Science Careers
#DisneyYouth #Gifted #Write31Days
Every day this month, have been highlighting the awesome Disney Youth Programs that are offered both at Disneyland in California and Walt Disney World Resort in Florida.
Today, have two classes to share with you:
Both of these Disney Y.E.S. programs are offered at WDW in Florida.

Our family loves visiting The Seas with Nemo & Friends at Epcot®! As
soon as our boys are old enough to take this class, we would love to
have them take it! Both of our sons are very interested in Marine Science and this just sounds right up their alley!

"Make a splash" and investigate five fascinating career tracks during
this 3-hour program. Discover how Disney scientists maintain the
environment and inhabitants of the nearly 6 million gallon
aquarium at the center of The Seas with Nemo & Friends, which is
accredited by the Association of Zoos and Aquariums. Students in grades
7-12 will learn the education and training required for a marine science
profession, understand the responsibilities of studying and caring for
aquatic animals and how they can play a role in oceanic conservation.
Key Learning Points
During this interactive field study, students will:
- Get an inside look at the diverse careers necessary to provide excellence in marine animal care and develop a feel for the day-to-day duties associated with those careers.
- Understand the educational background and experience needed to be successful in the careers of marine mammal trainer, marine researcher, water scientist, aquarist and veterinarian.
- Learn about the different research projects currently taking place at The Seas with Nemo & Friends and how research helps manage and protect marine species.
- Understand the role chemistry plays in marine life management and water quality.
- Explore some of the new, high-tech methods used to care for marine life.
- Become inspired to practice conservation in their own communities and consider a career in marine sciences.

My boys think that learning all about zoology through this course will be awesome, as soon as they are old enough to participate! We had a super time during a Disney Youth Media Event and our whole family got to have a behind-the-scenes tour of Disney's Animal Kingdom. We all learned so much about how active the Walt Disney Company and Disney's Animal Kingdom are with animal conservation. Loved learning how students are taught how the animals are ambassadors to their species.

Students in grades 10-12 will study the various animal science roles –
from animal behaviorist to
nutritionist – at Disney's Animal Kingdom® Theme Park. Throughout this
3-hour hours field study students Investigate the different people that
it takes to care for the animals within the park, learn
their responsibilities and the value of their individual contribution to
the operation.

Post #2 for Two for Tuesday
The boys have been very interested in sharks. So, created a Sharks Pinterest board, as having boards all ready to go for homeschooling works out great for them and for me. Since we tend to do interest-led learning where possible, I can easily let them peruse particular themed boards that tie in with the topic they wish to study. That is exactly what we did with sharks and what caught their eye was a shark themed art project. So, we went to the page that was linked to the particular pins that piqued their curiosity and then, they found out what art supplies they would need and got started on making their shark art. The boys were inspired by a blog post about an art project done by Heather at The Bees Knees Cousin. Her lesson focused on tints and shades so they had fun creating tints and shades of blue and blue-green for the water. They also found inspiration in a pin made by Gowers Art Class and a YouTube video called Shark Infestation by Studio Creek. So thank you to these talented artists / art teachers for creating their lessons, as you inspired my sons! Here are some photos from our day on our Pinterest Sharks Board:
