Today's Day 10 post is about Backstage at La Nouba™ by Cirque du Soleil®
This program is offered in Orlando at Cirque du Soleil® in Downtown Disney.
Here is the nicely written description I received from Disney Youth about this class:
Students take a look into the modern-day circus at La Nouba™ by Cirque du Soleil®.
Participants gain a greater appreciation of the presentation, training, and support systems that create an entertainment experience that invokes the imagination, provokes the senses, and evokes the emotions of people from around the world.
This program is offered at the Walt Disney World Resort in Florida. It is for students (and their group's chaperones) in grades 6-12.
Disney Youth even put a great video clip on YouTube that shows you a bit more about Backstage at La Nouba by Cirque du Soleil.
Here it is...
How can I possibly put into words what a party for the senses our time checking out
Backstage at La Nouba™ by Cirque du SoleilBackstage at La Nouba™ by Cirque du Soleil® truly was?!?
We had a WONDERFUL TIME!!!
The actual experience of being there, meeting with the educational staff and cast members of Disney Youth and Cirque du Soleil®, hearing all about La Nouba™ by Cirque du Soleil®, and then, actually taking it all in is a total sensory salad!
Walking up to the building is awe-inspiring in itself. As invited guests of the Disney Youth Media Showcase, we heard about what students would experience while taking the class, then, the show starts, silly fun with some lucky audience members getting called up to get involved. But then, it really takes off to a whole new level: the colorful, over-the-top costumes, the wide range of musical numbers, the dramatic effects, the phenomenal acrobatics & gymnastics, the artistry, the singing and performing by all of the cast members, the lighting, and the amazing stage that evolves...everything morphs to work with each new part of the show...
It is a fantastic feast for your senses!
My family and I had gone to see La Nouba by Cirque du Soleil ® a few years ago for my birthday, so I had experienced this great spectacle of a show.We had a nice time back then, even with having a tiny tot on my lap for the entire performance. But this time, since we learned about what students get to do behind-the-scenes, including getting to try out the diabolos...
As a homeschool mom and as the Director of Sunrise Learning Lab™, this is something that both my hubby and I want to set in motion to make it a reality to bring our sons and a group of our students. We plan to open this trip up to our homeschool co-op.
There are so many learning opportunities that will come from Backstage at La Nouba™ by Cirque du Soleil®.
Disney Youth Programs has Backstage at La Nouba by Cirque du Soleil materials that will help get groups like ours started in their planning.
Here are just some of the many possible tie-ins, in addition to what the materials through Disney Youth suggest, that you could do with a homeschool co-op group or a school group geared towards gifted learners:
- Research the physics and engineering aspects of the stage and the lighting
- Explore the physics of the acrobatic and gymnastic feats that are part of the show
- Create art projects that relate to the theme of circus, acrobatics, gymnastics (masks, puppets, wire and clay sculptures, diabolos, paper mobiles, drawings, watercolor paintings, textiles, prints, etc.)
- Explore the art and life of American artist, Alexander Calder, made famous for his wire circus art.
- Analyze the Cirque du Soleil soundtrack to dig in deeper to the music from the show
- Design and build small-scale robotics projects that replicate various aspects of the stage, lighting, and music
- Invent a board game that captures the essence of La Nouba™ by Cirque du Soleil®
- Analyze the themes presented during the performance
- Research the backgrounds and the preparation that it takes to become a Cirque du Soleil® performer
- Connect
with other students from around the world who have attended a Cirque du
Soleil® program and compare and contrast each group's experiences
Have set up a Backstage at La Nouba #DisneyYouth #Gifted Pinterest board to help groups who want to explore Backstage at La Nouba by Cirque du Soleil. It includes a variety of YouTube video clips, created by Disney Youth, Cirque du Soleil, as well as third parties.
